Anirban Dasgupta's stand up special "Take It Easy" is a special that was shot in black and white comedy special and required a very minimalist aesthetic look.
A simple write-on text animation was designed for the packaging of the show with emphasis on the name of the artist over the name of the show, as per the brief.
The orange color chosen for the name of the artist, worked on two levels- a. it made the name of the artist more prominent as it was the only colorful element in an all black and white special, and b. Since the nature of the show is very political, it served as a subtle take on the signature colors used by the current ruling party in India (as of 2014) that the artist takes digs at, through majority of the run time of the show.
A fairly simple approach was taken when designing the key art for the special. The name of the artist was highlighted along with the B&W look of the show.
Since the special was shot in B&W, the trailer aesthetics were designed to compliment the overall look of the show.
A major part of the show talks about the current trend of "taking offence"- how all comedians have to treat carefully as in the current political climate of India, ALL jokes offend people- with just the degree of the offence being taken varying from people to people and joke to joke. This treatment allowed me to play with the dichotomy that was that the trailer was trying to bring out.
The artist wanted to open the show with a fun little animated disclaimer. It served as a sarcastic warning sign for those who get easily offended.
