Synopsis
"Loveyapa" is a light-hearted romantic comedy film aimed at a Gen Z audience, starring Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan. The film’s narrative hinges on modern digital communication, with a mobile phone as its central plot device. Social media, texting, WhatsApp messages, and emoticons play a key role in the storytelling, reflecting the fast-paced, playful dynamics of today’s relationships.

The film opens with a one-and-a-half-minute title sequence, setting the tone and energy for the story to come. This sequence establishes the film’s vibrant, youthful aesthetic while incorporating brand videos from OnePlus, one of the film’s sponsors.

Brief
The title sequence is constructed using three key visual elements:

1. Social Media & Emoticons: Digital elements such as emojis, WhatsApp messages, and social media visuals capture the essence of modern communication and the playful tone of the film.
2. OnePlus Phone Manufacturing: Shots of a OnePlus phone being designed and assembled in a factory ensure that these product placements are seamlessly woven into the visual style while maintaining the narrative flow. The film begins with the protagonist purchasing a OnePlus phone at a showroom, immediately following the title sequence, seamlessly integrating the brand into the story.
3. Cast and Crew Credits: The cast and crew credits in both English and Devanagri scripts are legible, stylish, and integrated creatively within the visual language of the sequence.

The result is a bold, energetic, and engaging title sequence that effectively captures the film’s youthful energy while remaining stylish and aligned with the brand partnership.

Process
The creative approach we adopt involves weaving all of the above-mentioned elements into one seamless visual for the title sequence:

1. The headlining cast and crew credits are integrated seamlessly into various UI elements from social media apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, and phone notifications in both Hindi and Devanagri.

2. 2D animated doodles and squiggle lines across the entire sequence give it a sense of cohesiveness and uniformity, aligning the UI graphics, OnePlus shots, and credits into one cohesive family of aesthetics.

3. Some OnePlus shots are embedded within Youtube video/reel elements, making them feel like a natural part of the sequence's overall aesthetic rather than separate product placements.

4.The remaining credits adopt a simpler aesthetic, balancing the volume of names while maintaining the sequence's visual flow. These names appear on the sides as we animate 2D doodles and lines over the OnePlus shots, adding energy and life to the more static factory footage.

This ensures the entire sequence feels cohesive and dynamic.

Storyboard

The edit team provided us with an offline that featured OnePlus shots, b-roll footage, and blank spaces for graphics. Using the process note we developed, we designed the storyboard to explore and integrate the elements effectively.

Note: Certain sections of the storyboard showcase earlier designs or work-in-progress concepts that were later refined and incorporated into the final design sequence. Even the film's title logo underwent finalization by the creative agency, with the version used in the storyboard being a work-in-progress.

Finalised Storyboard

After finalising the overall look and treatment based on the storyboard, we created the first draft of the title sequence animation. Over the next few weeks, we incorporated creative inputs from the director, making slight adjustments to the storyboard during the animation process. The final sequence was then approved, sealed, and delivered.

Here are some screenshots from the finalised sequence, featured in the film Loveyapa. After a successful theatrical run, the film is now streaming on JioHotstar in India.
